Nov 13, 2006 AsiaOne
Singapore's government plans to increase its goods and services tax (GST) to 7 per cent from 5 per cent, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced in Parliament today.
He said the details would be unveiled when the government announces cuts to income taxes in the Feb 15 budget to make Singapore more competitive.
The government is also proposing an amendment to the constitution to extend government's spending from national reserves' investment income to include realized capital gains, on top of dividends and interest, according to a Bloomberg report. http://news.asiaone.com/a1news/20061113_story4_1.html
